Following the huge success of the 2024 Youth World Cup in Ski Mountaineering, the ISMF World Cup event in February 2025, and having hosted the Ski Alp competitions during the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games in February 2026 – when ski mountaineering made its historic debut on the Olympic programme – Bormio has once again established itself as one of the most prestigious stops on the Ski Mountaineering World Cup circuit, cementing its role as a leading destination for this discipline.
On January 9 and 10, 2027, Bormio will once again host the world’s top athletes on the Stelvio slope for a stage of the ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation) World Cup.
The ISMF Bormio World Cup - weekend will kick off on Saturday, January 9, with the men’s and women’s sprint format qualifiers, culminating in the highly anticipated afternoon finals.
On Sunday, 10 January, the thrilling mixed relay will take center stage, closing out this intense and engaging two-day competition in grand style.
Spectators will have the opportunity to witness thrilling battles and immerse themselves in a unique experience blending sport, passion, and entertainment.

Sprint Race
A circuit lasting approximately 3’ - 3’30”, featuring:
- Uphill segment with climbing skins
- Foot section carrying skis on the backpack
- Another segment with skis and climbing skins
- Downhill segment with directional gates
- Maximum elevation gain: 70 meters
The race consists of multiple phases:
- Individual qualifications
- Heats: Quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals
- All heats, from the quarter-finals onward, feature six athletes per race.
Mixed Relay
A circuit lasting 8 - 10 minutes, featuring:
- Two ascents (the second including a foot section carrying skis on the backpack)
- Two descents
- Maximum elevation gain: 150 meters
Each team consists of one man and one woman, who take turns completing the circuit twice (the first leg starts with the woman).
The race is structured as follows:
- Individual qualifications (the times of both teammates are combined)
- Final A and Final B (optional, at the discretion of the ISMF jury)
- The final features 12 teams.
