The road that leads to the Stelvio Pass is an international icon of cycling, a symbol that represents Bormio and all of Alta Valtellina.

The Stelvio, inside the homonymous national park, on the border between Lombardy and Alto Adige, evokes the heroic deeds of the Giro d'Italia for cycling lovers, makes skiers dream with the largest summer ski area in the Alps and preserves the memory of the Great War with the still visible remains of trenches and military villages.

The summit, called Cima Coppi, can be reached from three  sides, the Lombard ,the South Tyrolean and the Swiss one. This is the gravel itinerary on the Valtellina side that climbs along the Braulio valley, with its impetuous waterfall, in a succession of 40 hairpin bends and wild nature.

From Bormio, turn right following the signs for Strada del Passo dello Stelvio SS38.
The climb starts from Bormio town and continues to the summit for 21, 3 km.
As you continue along the paved road, the surrounding landscape changes. The lush mountain landscapes give way to increasingly arid stretches, until you reach the Stelvio Pass, which with its 2758m is the highest road crossing in Europe.

Get ready for a heroic experience, an epic ride on a road or gravel bike.

The fatigue and the silence will be interrupted by the whistle of the marmots, chamois, ibexes and the eagle will make this climb fascinating and evocative.
