Spring skiing in Bormio: sun and snow at 3,000 meters

Spring skiing may sound a risky pick when it comes to skiing holiday. People generally think that January and February are the best months to ski. But why not hit the slopes a little bit later in the season? Maybe in March or April? You get less crowds on the ski runs, cheaper prices and just as much snow. But where to you may ask. Choose a ski resort which offers high mountains where the temperatures stay constantly below 0° C.

Bormio is with no doubt a great pick for spring skiing: the slopes stretch up to 3,012 meters and the latest and copious snowfalls (50 cm on February 28 and 28 cm on March 4) let us have high hopes on the final part of the season.

Lightened slope in Bormio: night skiing will be back on February 9

Night skiing is a big attraction of several Italian ski resorts yearning to widen their tourist offer. Bormio is a top choice from that point of view since it can offer a beautiful 4-kilometer lightened slope served by a modern lift, the cableway Bormio-Bormio 2000. The lightened run is actually made out of two slopes: the blue one (east) Genziana and the red one (intermediate) Stelvio.

The course has a vertical drop of 727 meters: from Bormio 2000 (1,952 m) to the valley floor (1,225 m). The piste is very much satisfying especially when you hit the Stelvio, worldwide famous slope which has hosted, over the years, 46 World Cup races. Along the ski run you will encounter several mountain huts where to rest and, if you may like, dance.

The next event with the lightened slope in Bormio will be on Thursday February 9 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Ski from peak to creek in Bormio! The valley run is open.

In Bormio everything is ready to host the “all adrenaline” ski race Peak to Creek at the end of January. The clients of the ski area can finally ski from peak to creek, as we like to say when referring to the opening of the valley run and the possibility to ski, from top to bottom, the whole vertical drop of the mountain.

Since last Saturday people have been skiing on the slope Bosco Basso which made the “vertical fun” of Bormio finally for real. Skiing on a 1,800-meter vertical drop is pure poetry for every ski fan. Dancing on the snow from 3,012 meters to 1,225 meters is a unique experience that you don’t exactly find everywhere.

Torchlight parade and fireworks: it’s New Year’s Eve in Bormio!

The new year is behind the corner and Bormio is getting prepared to celebrate with a spectacular torchlight parade on the Stelvio slope followed by the firework show.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow from 5:30 pm at the Ski Stadium on Funivia Street for the great New Year’s Eve Party organized by Bormio Tourism. There will be plenty of music, hot tea and mulled wine to warm everyone’s heart.

Snowfalls in Bormio: 60 cm at 3,000 meters

This is it. During the weekend we had experienced some serious snowfalls in Bormio (Alta Valtellina, Italy) accompanied by severe temperatures. All the tourism operators have been whispering for the latest few hours but the overall impression is that winter over the Alps has finally come.

On November Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 an important low-pressure area hit our region revealing itself into snow (for the second time this fall) even at the lower altitudes.

Rockin’ Mountains 2016. The official video

Have you ever seen a rock concert on the snow? In Bormio it happened from March 25 to 27 when Dirty Mondays from Milan come to our snowpark with their explosive project Rockin’ Mountains.

Rockin Mountains 2016. Salto con gli sci allo snowpark

The rock ‘n roll music had been the glue of a three-day event of entertainment on the snow with activities oriented to young people.

The most exciting time had been for sure the snowboard & freeski contest to which many athletes of international level had signed up. We definitely had seen some spectacular tricks out there.

The official sponsor of the event was the Ceres beer: an Italian brand historically connected with outdoor activities and much popular among youngsters for its “social” character.
