Bormio, May 9, 2013. It’s official now! The cablecar Bormio 2000-Cima Bianca will be exposed to the overall inspection in order to guarantee its functioning for the next winter season. The lift is the oldest among the ski area: it’s been open since July 10, 1969.

The executive of BormioSki confirms that the works, led by the technical manager Pasquale Canclini, will start in June and will only be over in proximity of the next skiing season. The lift has reached its expiry date and will be modernize and renovated for 16 more years. 

The investment is considered to be essential for the future of the ski area and will amount to 2 millions of Euro. Valeriano Giacomelli, managing director of BormioSki comments: “We’ve got down to a turning point, renew or let the cablecar die? We decided to relaunch because we have to look ahead and the cablecar is indispensable because it’s the only one lift that carry people with no skis up to 3000 meters and it is also the only one that works even with strong wind. The same lift is necessary to take the bikers to the top in summer and in November when we are opening the skiing season early.”

BormioSki announces that the cableway Bormio-Bormio 2000 will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. and from 2 to 5.30 p.m. from June 29 to September 8, 2013.

But what about next winter? Here’s a sneak preview of what the skiing season 2013/2014 is going to offer. The Bormio lifts will officially open on November 30, 2013 and close on April 21, 2014. If the weather conditions will allow it, ‘Snovember’ will be back with the early opening of the lifts situated at the top in November.

December, the real start of the season when you can’t wait to get your skis or snowboard on your feet, will be distinguished for the incredible low prices: the one day pass will only be 22 euros!

The “Skipass FREE” has been firmly confirmed for the next winter season and will also be extended for a longer period of time: from November 30 to December 24, 2013 and from March 29 to April 21, 2014. Your ski pass will be free if you are booking for an hotel or agreed apartment in Bormio for at least three days.

If you missed the final day of the Bormio skiing season  you can live it again now with the spectacular takes made by VisualWorking! The leading actors of the video are definitely all the ‘fools’ who take part at the pond contest on April 14. Check out how they bravely challenge the pool set up for the occasion in Bormio 2000 trying to cross it with their skis, snowboard or fancy wagons. Some shots are extremely fun. Take a look!

The contest of the pond which consists of  crossing a 30-meter long and 15-meter wide stretch of water was divided into four categories: Normal Grand, Normal Picen, Jump and Mat. 146 brave ones took part at the challenge.

The crowd followed with great excitement the contest which began with 23 Normal Picen (children with skis), then 26 Normal Grand (adults). The level of the show grew with the acrobatics at the jump and totally exploded with the wagons. We saw 22 construnctions trying to cross the pond.

THE ITINERARIES IN THE VALLONE

Vallone (big valley)

The classic off-piste itinerary of Bormio. Great satisfaction.

Reach Bormio 3000 by cablecar and pass below the station entering the hill side. No mandatory itinerary to ski down. After the first half don’t go too far left due to the presence of rock barriers. Reach the avalanche barrier before the plateau. Gather speed from here and go to the right, look out for the little road which will take you to the ski slopes with a five minute walk.

Do not enter the summit avalanche barrier: very dangerous area!

Croce (cross)

Get out of the cablecar and pass below the station. Follow the western ridge which takes you to the Vallecetta summit. From the peak enter the couloir which faces North-East and join the Vallone’s classic.

THE ITINERARIES IN THE POSTO DEGLI SCIATORI (the skiers’ spot)

Antenne (aerials)

Fun and fascinating descent in a magical environment.

At the end of the ski slope Ferrari, reach the flat section and enter the off-piste to the right side. You will see some aerials above you. No forced itinerary between changes of gradients and a fun wood. Continue until you intersect the “strada dell’acqua” (the road of water, it’s a narrow mountain road). Follow it to the left for roughly 20 minutes till you reach the ski slope at 2000 m.

In Bormio 2000 we will set up a real swimming pool that many ‘crazy’ people have tried to cross over the last several editions. If you are one of them you have to sign up! And we can give you another good reason to participate.. If you are a wagon constructor you will be playing for a € 5000 prize money!!!!!

The most beautiful constructions and the best at crossing the pond will be awarded with a cash prize! Awesome awards for the categories Normal Grand, Normal Picen and Jump too.
